Hey there everyone! My name is Dani, and I’m the new intern here at La Herradura Spanish School in Montevideo. I joined this awesome team just a few days ago, and have already learned so much.

Let me first start with a little bit about myself and my long-time connection with Montevideo and La Herradura. In 2008, I graduated high school early and decided to spend a few months in Montevideo – the birth place of my father. After lots of research on what to do with my time here, I found La Herradura.

For 4 months, I took Spanish lessons daily and lived upstairs in the residency of the school. I got to know the neighborhood of Parque Rodo like the back of my hand, the Uruguayan culture and made friends (including Nora, la mama de la escuela) at the school, that I’m still close with today.

8 years later, I’ve returned to Uruguay. I came looking to volunteer, learn and explore all that I could and all throughout the country. I decided to visit La Herradura a month and half into my travels (after all, it was my home for four very influential months) and after speaking with Margo about how I could reconnect with the school – I’m more than happy to begin my new adventure here in Montevideo!

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be updating you all on activities here at the school, experiences I have as a half Newyorkquina/half Uruguayan and any thoughts, challenges and/or life experiences as an extranjera.
