After more than 4  months of living in Montevideo, most of my things are packed and I have checked into my return flight. Within the next 48 hours, I will touch down in Miami. It seems like the past few months I’ve spent here have flown by. When I first arrived, I had no idea what to expect from this country. I was honestly very nervous. However, once I started classes I began to feel more comfortable as my Spanish improved.

I really enjoyed my class time as each class was fun and entertaining and the teachers were very enthusiastic and really loved what they did. I was sad when class was over. Once my internship began, I had to adjust to a new routine. After observing in the hospital for a month or so, my internship began to get a bit repetitive. One thing that I wish I had known before would be that I would not be allowed to touch patients at all. As a second year nursing student, I found this to be quite frustrating. However, after expressing my frustrations, my counselors were more than willing to help me find something a little more stimulating for me to do. I ended up starting Spanish classes again and was very excited to be learning something again.

Overall, I think that my time here in Uruguay has improved my Spanish immensely. My one concern is that I may lose some of it when I return to the U.S. I think that it will be very important for me to find a way to practice. Though Uruguay has been good to me, I am very excited to go home.
