cursos de español en el campo de Uruguay

  • Experience the natural environment of Uruguay through living in the countryside. Enjoy riding, biking, hiking, listening to the birds in our small indigenous forest, and finish your day watching the beautiful sunset practicing your Spanish with the locals.

The "Cortijo La Herradura" is a family business run by Roberto, Margo, Rebeca, and Gabriela. The idea came from our passion for horses and the positive feedback from students, after taking them horseback riding at another facility. What we want to share with you is the tranquility that is experienced in the countryside, sharing moments with the animals we have, leaving the daily routine aside, enjoying nature accompanied by the beautiful environment.

The property is situated in the rural area of the department of Canelones, 7km from a village called Estación Tapia. On your drive to “Cortijo La Herradura” you will notice how completely surrounded by nature you are. There are no high buildings, just miles of lush green fields.

The private ground consisting of 17 hectares, will give you the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful landscape that the countryside of Uruguay has to offer. You can walk around the place accompanied by our dogs and get to know all our horses as well. They are magnificent creatures of huge, overbearing stature but friendly enough to allow you to approach them. You can rest at a nearby lake enjoying the fabulous views, or relax with a book under a tree in our garden or in our small indigenous forest, whilst listening to the sound of birds chirping

Specifically structured Spanish lessons can also be organized. Our approach however is more focused on Uruguayan culture, history, and general conversation. Depending on your level and interest, lessons will be organized by our professional teachers and you can choose in having lessons every day, or a few times per week. We are flexible!

Other "Things to do" are; hiking or biking in the surrounding area. We will supply you with printed trails so you can get to know your way around. Bikes are available at no cost, to discover the area and small surrounding villages. It is worth having a traditional lunch in the local restaurant of the village Estación Tapia, 7km away. The villages of Migues and San Jacinto at approximately 13km away.

You can help provide care with the daily activities, and take care of the horses and observe the dressage of the new horses.

We also offer Horse riding excursions, riding lessons, and cooking lessons.

You can combine your stay by booking a 1-week course (or more) at our school in Montevideo or Punta del Estewith a 1-week stay (or more) at “Cortijo La Herradura”.

The house itself has 2 floors. The first floor has 2 bedrooms (single or double), sharing a bathroom equipped with a shower, washbasin, and toilet. From the rooms, you will directly walk into the garden and into the shared large space with an open and fully equipped kitchen with all the necessary utilities. There is also a very comfortable dining and relax area, another toilet, a billiard table and plenty of books. There is a washer and dryer that can be used for a small fee.

On the second floor is the family house with 1 bedroom (single or double) for guests, sharing a bathroom equipped with a shower, washbasin, and toilet. There is a living room with an open kitchen and a large balcony, offering you a great view overlooking the property and its surroundings. A perfect place to enjoy the amazing sunset, the starry sky, or a thunderstorm.

For those looking for more privacy, there is a bungalow with a place for 2 or 3 students.

Breakfast is included, lunch, diner, and afternoon teas are also worth trying, all homemade with vegetables from our organic garden!

There is a small shack nearby which is used as the local bar. It is very traditionally Uruguayan, decorated with posters of past Uruguayan football teams and ornaments from the countryside. It is definitely worth a visit. The neighbors come here as well for a drink after work and to play pool, watch the television or just to chat. The owner loves hosting people and telling them stories about things that have happened to him throughout his life. It is also a good opportunity to practice your Spanish with him.

Relax, breathe fresh air, and practice your Spanish, enjoying the beautiful natural environment of Uruguay with us at “Cortijo La Herradura”.
