Actividades Culturales y Candombe en Paseo Sur y Palermo este Sábado 9 de Agosto
This Saturday, August 9, Montevideo will host a vibrant cultural event at Paseo Sur and Palermo, starting at 3:00 PM. It’s a great chance to experience local culture and enjoy a variety of activities.
What to Expect
The event, recognized as being of National Interest by the Ministry of Tourism, aims to revitalize the community and promote cultural exchange. It has been organized with input from local residents and aims to bring people together.
Schedule of Activities
3:00 PM - Talk and Guided Tours
The day will begin with a talk titled “Montevideo Carnival: Carnival Beyond Carnival,” given by José Arisi at Africanía, Isla de Flores 1653. There will also be guided Afro-Latino tours leaving from Zelmar Michelini and Carlos Gardel, and Cebollatí and Minas. No need to register for these tours.
Entrepreneurship Fair
You can browse a fair featuring local crafts and gifts at Ansina and Isla de Flores, supporting local vendors.
3:30 PM and 4:30 PM - Mobile Planetarium
Check out the Kappa Crucis mobile planetarium at the Casa de la Cultura Afrouruguaya, where you can learn more about the universe.
4:00 PM - Candombe Wheel
One of the highlights will be the first round of the Candombe Wheel at Isla de Flores and Ansina. This traditional event is an important part of Uruguay's cultural heritage.
4:30 PM - Activities for All Ages
There will also be a session with the Uruguayan Photo Club, offering tips to improve your photography. A “Dance the Drum” workshop for children and families, led by Paola Correa Ramos, will be available as well.
5:00 PM - Art Workshop
Kids can join an art workshop focusing on African symbolism, organized by the Nzingas collective.
6:00 PM - Second Round of the Candombe Wheel
The day will wrap up with the second round of the Candombe Wheel, a fitting conclusion to the event.
For Families
Throughout the event, there will be inflatable games for children, making it a family-friendly experience.
