There are options for different interests and experience levels, so you can choose something that feels right for you. If you are unsure where to start, our team can help you find the program that matches your goals and what you would like to experience during your stay in Uruguay.
Your Volunteer Experience in Uruguay
Our volunteer programs in Uruguay let you make a difference in the community while improving your Spanish through immersion. You’ll get hands-on experience, meet locals, and live a bit of Uruguay every day.
Choose Your Volunteer Project
We offer a variety of programs so you can find something that fits your interests and skills. Popular options include:
Social Work: Support children, teenagers, or local community projects.
Animal Care: Help in shelters with daily care and wellbeing.
Ranch Work: Experience rural life while assisting with farm tasks.
Teaching English: Share your language skills and help students grow.
Working with Young Adults with Disabilities: Support independence, creativity, and daily activities.
Every project is unique, and some roles may require specific experience. We’ll guide you to find the right fit. If you have a particular area in mind, just let us know.
How to Join
To participate, please keep these requirements in mind:
Spanish Course: Complete a 4-week intensive Spanish course in Montevideo or Punta del Este.
Spanish Proficiency: An intermediate level is needed to communicate effectively with your community. If you already have the required level, you can start volunteering while attending two weeks of mandatory classes.
Experience: Relevant skills or experience are required for most projects.
Application Details: Submit a CV with your application. A motivation letter is optional but helpful. We’ll also have a 30-minute video call to get to know you.
Preparation Through Spanish Classes
Daily Group Classes: Learn and practice Spanish in a supportive environment while preparing for your volunteer work.
All Levels: Courses are available for beginners through advanced students.
Duration: Typically three weeks minimum, with the option to extend.
Program Overview
Start After Your Course: Your volunteer project begins after completing the Spanish course, with a minimum commitment of four weeks.
Skills and Experience: Previous experience or specific skills (medical, teaching, social work, administration, or working with children or vulnerable adults) help us match you with the right project.
Project Availability: Not all projects accept volunteers year-round. Your preferences, skills, and experience guide us to the best fit.
Our partner organizations are non-profits dedicated to improving the lives of children, teenagers, young adults, and families in Uruguay. They promote respect, education, health, wellbeing, and diversity — values we share and expect our volunteers to embrace.
